Brothers and Sisters in Christ. We need more volunteers of all ages to help behind the scenes with the various tasks involved with running this ministry. Can you spare a few hours a month?
North East Scotland Youth for Christ have been both blessed and privileged to be a part of the growing multi team ministry which is coming together as one body in Christ to follow His example and reach out to people where they are and particularly in Tillydrone and Seaton.
As you may know, we had a full time Youth Worker Curtis Sangbarani working with the young people of Tillydrone, St Machar Academy and to a lesser extent Seaton. The work included football coaching of the Riverbank Primary School Football Team, school pastor at St Machar Academy, befriending at Riverbank Primary School, Transforming Lives for Good at Riverbank Primary School, Cage football, discipling young people, helping out at the Mission and Lighthouse etc. We have seen that work impacting on young people in a positive way. See our latest newsletter link on home page.
Curtis has moved on to be part of another ministry on the south side of the city, we wish him every blessing in that role.
Our new youth worker is Matthew Hamilton, he is continuing to work with the young people in Tillydrone, alongside members of the Lighthouse Charity.
However, North East Scotland Youth for Christ are still at a critical stage in our ministry regarding the manpower required behind the scenes to support and develop the front end work in Tillydrone and Seaton. At the moment it is difficult for us to see how the ministry can develop if we do not get more people on board. The work is being blessed, but there is much more we could be doing with more help.
Our Steering group is stretched to the point that the few people left are overloaded with the various things they have taken on. Our front line ministry is being compromised from a lack of young volunteers, and Cage events sometimes cancelled due to a lack of supporting volunteers. Our Breathe event has had to be suspended, depriving local youth initiatives and churches of a valuable resource.
We would really appreciate it if you could take time to consider and let us know if there may be anyone in your home church or social circle who you think could be approached or be willing to help serve in our ministry, particularly in the following critical roles.
Steering Group Member: Just be a member of the Steering Group helping with the operation, vision and decision making process of our ministry. We are really keen to find people who are (a) local to Tillydrone/Seaton and/or (b) who have a real burden for that area and for reaching young people with the reality and good news of Jesus.Don't worry about whether you have the right gifts - as we have found out, God will enable you! Also don’t worry about age, if you are 18 or upwards then you can play a valuable part in steering the ministry.
Occasional help with the Cage football ministry: You don't have to be good at football or sport. We need people to help set up the Cage and take it down after each event. The more people, the quicker, safer and easier it is to do this. We also need guys and girls 16+ to just engage with the young people standing around outside the Cage - important relational work! We have had to cancel Cage events because there are not enough people to help.
We can provide more detailed role descriptions for anyone who may feel led to help us or want to explore things further, but we also need help with IT (web site, electronic newsletter, document archiving), admin, prayer coordinating, newsletter processing, publicity, fundraising, Health and Safety!
Many thanks
In Christ whom we serve.
